“Did You Know About Oregon Carousels?” - CCTV Community Producer, Darrell Jabin
Did you know about Darrell Jabin? Darrell has been producing
interesting videos about Oregon for the last year and a half under the title “Did You Know About Oregon?”
Darrell (shown here in a CCTV editing suite) enjoys researching history to find stories. He includes scenes
from areas throughout the state and
sometimes interviews local people. His videos include a story about a city and county named for a close friend of Abraham Lincoln, a stolen jail in Grant County, a city band that traces its roots back more than 100 years and 20 other shorts
including one playing now about an amusement park that was the largest in the
nation.
“I had looked into Oregon history and the namesakes of Oregon geography,” Jabin said, “and found some "Did you knows" that I felt were interesting and may not be known by many people. I originally wrote the stories for short radio
spots, but didn't have any stations that were interested in playing them.
It occurred to me that I could make them into videos and took the (CCTV) classes
to become a producer.”
The history of Carousels was the subject of a 20-minute video Darrell
produced, “Did You Know About Oregon Carousels?” It includes information about three of the carousels existing in Oregon and features the community project to create a carousel in downtown Albany. He is currently working on another 20-minute video on historic amusement parks in Oregon.
