Ballot Alert: Some Voters May Get Two
If you decided to change your political party affiliation, especially in the last weeks before the April 29 voter registration deadline, don't be surprised if you get two ballots in the mail. One is the wrong ballot. This week the Secretary of State sent postcards to affected voters urging them to wait for the right ballot, and to vote with that one.
According to the Secretary of State an "extraordinarily high" number of people registered to vote in the May 20 primary. However, an estimated thirty-two thousand Oregon voters who changed party affiliation close to the time ballots went to the printers may get two ballots: one with their old party registration and one with the new, up-dated one. If the wrong one is sent in, only the non-partisan contest votes will be counted.
To make sure your vote counts, the League of Women Voters of Marion and Polk County has put out a video advisory explaining the situation and steps to take if you are one of the double ballot recipients. Sharon Johnson (pictured above) urged voters to contact their county clerks for additional help. Check our schedule for air times or watch it on our web site as streaming video.
